Amtgard is an international live-action combat and medieval arts organization founded in 1983 in El Paso, Texas. Members gather in parks and fields to battle with foam-padded weapons, wear period-inspired costumes, and participate in a rich culture of craftsmanship, storytelling, and community.
Unlike purely competitive sports, Amtgard blends physical combat with creative expression players earn ranks through fighting skill, artistic achievement, and service to their community. It is free to play, open to all ages, and requires no prior experience.

Winter's Edge is established in September 2003 as an alliance of Amtgard chapters in the central southeastern United States, originally known as the Central Eastern Alliance.
The group grows and earns Principality status under the sponsorship of the Kingdom of Neverwinter, gaining greater autonomy and recognition within Amtgard.
After years of growth, service, and dedication, Winter's Edge achieves full Kingdom.
With chapters spanning 7 southeastern states and over 400 active members, Winter's Edge continues to grow as a community, a nonprofit, and a force on the Amtgard battlefield.

Coronation and Midreign each happen twice a year the four pillars of the Winter's Edge kingdom calendar.
The ceremony where new kingdom officers are crowned and the torch is passed. A celebration of service, achievement, and the continuity of the kingdom.
Held at the midpoint of each reign, Midreign is a kingdom-wide gathering for battles, competitions, and court a chance to celebrate the current reign.
An open world live-action roleplay event that runs continuously throughout the day. Once gameplay opens, there is no posted schedule multiple adventures are active at all times and players choose their own level of involvement. Earn honor for your team and secure your place among the Champions.
The game world is yours to explore. Interact with NPCs to learn about the surrounding area, uncover storylines, and pick up work.
Small group dungeon-style encounters where players face challenges, puzzles, or enemies. Mods range in difficulty some reward combat skill, others reward wit.

Amtgard is free to play at the park level. There is a small annual membership fee to register with Amtgard International, which gives you access to voting in Althings and running for Offices.
Comfortable clothes you can move in athletic wear is fine. As you get more involved, you'll likely want to develop a persona and costume, but there's no requirement to start.
Yes! Amtgard is family-friendly. Children under 18 need a parent or guardian's permission and must follow age-appropriate combat rules. Many of our members started as kids.
